What came in the mail today

    Hi all you CT'ers,

Usually I have only US coins to post. But today I received some interesting coins from my daughter in the midwest. She sent them as a birthday gift. I posted a couple coins on the US Coin Forum in case you want to check it out.

    Thank You Jack.
I would bow, but if I do I will fall on my noggin.
Check out the California coin in the US Coin Forum.
Apparently were 150K minted of a one year issue, and the mint destroyed 63,406.
I really doubt if my daughter has any idea she sent me so much silver.

    Thanks Kid,
The research on the internet about unusual-to-me coins can give me insight on why a particular coin was minted. Learning about the composition of the coin can help me if I plan to find anymore like it.
World coins are not part of my main collecting interest, but some are very nice.

Really cool , always liked the older Mexican stuff , will have to start looking at the other countries south of the border . Also looks like die cuds on the 5 cents , nice .

I think those are from a coin holder/necklace. Nice coins regardless - thanks for sharing!

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Yeh, most likely solder marks on that 1887 5 cent piece. This coin is about a hair width short of 15mm across, and the weight is a hefty 1.2 grams. In hand it looks a lot nicer than that humungous picture. Because it isn't a special collectible I am considering trying to remove the verdigris and dirt so it doesn't continue to self destruct. (boy is that statement gonna start a riot here)
I haven't found out much about the coin yet, except it appears to be a type of circulating commemorative coin about an event in 1821.
I will keep searching and report back if time allows and I find anything new.

Those are great coins, I especially like the Colombian peso.
